Security

WNY Data Vault ensures your data's safety by utilizing encryption and storage methods which exceed the banking industry and government standards.

Encryption

WNY Data Vault software encrypts your data on your computer before transport to our servers.  Your data remains encrypted during it's entire storage process.  Only you hold the Encryption Key required to unlock your data for use on your system.  Not even the WNY Data Vault staff can access your companies data.

WNY Data Vault software allows you to use various Encryption Standards. Depending on the country you are in, some of these standards may not be available to you. They are all available in the United States and Canada.

·      DES is the old US Federal Standard

·      TDES is a much more secure form of DES

·      Blowfish is probably the most secure of all. It uses a key length that is variable from four bits to 448 bits.

·      AES is the new US Federal Standard. RBackup supports three levels of AES from 128 bits to 256 bits. 256 bit AES is very secure, but it is also slow.

·      No Encryption is used in cases where you want to share data among peers, or when the requirements of a particular business do not allow encryption.

Encryption Keys

Our software has a way to automatically generate "statistically perfect" encryption keys - the most secure keys. If you want the very highest security, do not pick your own key. Allow our software to generate it for you.

The way our software generates a key depends on which encryption standard you have chosen.

Storage

WNY Data Vault's storage systems utilize a redundant backup system which stores data backups off-site in a secure location.  Your data will be always be available and safe.

When the encrypted data is received at the WNY Data Vault servers it is immediately stored in the encrypted format.  Data files are given unrecognizable filenames and user accounts which protects the data from  unauthorized access.

When a restore operation is requested by the user, the username and password are sent to the WNY Data Vault server in encrypted format.  After authentication is made the clients encrypted data is sent to the client system where it is then decrypted on the users system and ready for use.

At no time during the storage process is your data accessible by unauthorized individuals as only you hold "the key".
