Data Loss Facts and Figures
Data loss happens much more than you realize.
According to multiple well known research groups, you are
not alone when it comes to not backing up your data properly
Don't become another statistic because the odds are against
you if you do not proactively backup your data offsite every
night. Don't just take our word for it, here are some facts
and figures created by some of the most reputable research
companies that may really surprise you:
6% of ALL PC's will suffer an episode of data loss
in any given year (Source: Gartner Group). - This is a very
significant number! That is one in twenty computers that will
suffer a data loss. Are you willing to risk your business
or job with these odds? Remember . . . data loss happens!
Will you be prepared if it does unexpectedly happen? How much
will it cost you if you are not? More than Remote Data Backups?
More than 60% of corporate data resides on individual
PC desktops and laptops (Source: IDC). - You may think you
have a great "save to server" solution for all your individual
PC data backups, but studies show that much of your individual
end-user critical data never gets mapped to the server itself
and remains local on the PC ... and does not get backed up!
A very easy and costly oversight because many times there
is more important end=user data stored locally than you realize.
Up to 96% of all business PC's are not being backed
up (Source: Contingency Planning Research and Strategic Research
Corporaton) - Though this number may seem high to you, the
source is very credible. While although servers are typically
backed up, rarely do companies ever backup the individual
PC's themselves. Usually the main company data is mapped to
the server, but not all the end-user data like favorites,
my documents, etc. are not. If the individual computer does
not get backed up, neither will the local data.
Up to 15% or more laptops are stolen or suffer hard
drive failures (Source: Gartner Group). - Again, are you willing
to risk your business or your job with these odds? Obviously
mobile laptops are much more vulnerable to data loss than
the typical PC just becuase they are bumped around more and
are often in unsecure enviroments. Since backup drives are
most often external to the laptop itself and are a pain to
remain attached, it often is not taken with and consequently
not used very often. What would you do if you or your sales
people lost their laptop and it had no recent backup? How
much would it cost you? More than Remote Data Backups?

loose cables, user mistakes and hardware failures.
Busy People....
...Rush
through backups without verifying them.
...Put
off backups until a more convenient time.
...Leave
backup disks or tapes in a drawer next to the computer where
they'll be lost in the same catastrophy.
